Please compare your detached arm to the series of photographs in the 3rd image. 100% of installations that proceed without the outer slide bearing fail. There aren’t any “special” chairs or arms; every adjustable arm needs this bearing. Resellers sometimes omit this critical part to cut costs. In my humble opinion, the biggest drawback of this bolt is the T-27 Torx drive socket hole in the head. Less than 5% of buyers who are looking at this listing expected their arm to break when it did. If you sat on your arm; or, if your teenager fell on it while horsing around, you are in this group. That leaves 95% plus who are in disbelief that a seeming small load placed on their arm caused it to break. Button socket head cap screws aren’t intended for use where head strength is critical. The cantilever attachment the Aeron chair arm makes it a 2nd class lever with a mechanical advantage of 8 to 1. A 50 pound load on the outer tip of the arm multiplies to 400 pounds of force pulling on the bolt head. No surprise, 99% of these bolts fail when the head detaches from the shaft. Buyers can validate if their bolt broke in this location by inspecting the bolt shaft coming out of their arm. Magnify the tip and, you should see a dimple in the middle. That comparatively smooth, concave area is the bottom of the T-27 socket hole. The doughnut-shaped ring of grainy metal outside the dimple was holding the head to the shaft.
